Record No. 735 Combined Hard & Softboard Plane

Record No 735 Fibreboard Plane
Record No. 735 Combined Hard & Softboard Plane
as illustrated in Pocket Catalogue No. 16 in 1955

In addition to slitting and bevelling of soft insulating board, the 735 Combined Hard & Softboard Plane differed to the 730 Softboard Plane in that it could also cut and bevel hardboard, such as Masonite. For this purpose it used a slightly thicker razor blade type cutter, as well as an attachable fence.

Like the 730, two positions for the cutter were available – a vertical position for slitting and cutting, and a 45 degree angled position for bevelling. On soft insulating board it is capable of bevelling up to 3/8 of an inch deep at 45 degrees, or grooving up to 3/8 of an inch deep using the grooving attachment. It can also be used for slitting up to 1/2 inch thickness. The grooving attachment was provided to allow vee grooving of softboard, for decorative purposes.

A front knob was also fitted for extra stability when working the denser hardboard.

First introduced in Pocket Catalogue No. 16 in 1955.
