The No. 050A Combination plane is a combined tool which will perform most planing operations generally required in cabinet making and joinery, namely:
1. Ploughing.
2. Dadoing.
3. Beading.
4. Centre Beading.
5. Rabbeting and Filletstering.
6. Tonguing and Grooving.
It is fitted with spurs for cross-grain work, adjustable depth gauge, double arm adjustable bridged fence, beading stop and also shaving deflector for use when tonguing.
It will plough or rabbet 1/2" deep up to 5" from edge.
The face of the fence can be increased in depth by screwing a hardwood fillet.
The Record Improved Combination plane is fitted with screw adjustment to the cutter, which enables it to be fed into the work with an accurate and easy control.
A complete set of 15 cutters, as listed below, were supplied with this plane, and in addition a clamping bracket and a plough cutter, each 1/8" and 3/16" wide. With this improved feature grooves narrower than 1/4" can be ploughed suitable for plywood panels etc.. Extra cutters were available at extra charge.
Cutters were:
1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16" & 1/2" Beading cutters.
1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 5/8" & 7/8" Plough & Dado cutters.
1/4" Match (Tongue & Groove) cutter.
Additional cutters of millimetre width for grooving for plywood panels etc., were available in 4mm, 6mm, 9mm & 12mm widths.
(NOTE: The No. 050A Combination plane was the same as the No. 050, but included a cutter clamping bracket and 1/8" and 3/16" Plough cutters.)
An instruction book was provided with each plane.
The plane was supplied complete in varnished wood box with sliding lid.
First introduced in Catalogue No. 11, published in September 1932.
